In November 2001, Goranka and I celebrated being together for 10 years by taking a trip to the island of Bora Bora (in French Polynesia). It is an amazing place. The island is volcanic in origin, and is surrounded by tiny islets (called motus) that form a protected lagoon that is somewhat characteristic of several islands in its group. Most people feel that it has the most beautiful lagoon in the world, and I do agree that it is incredibly beautiful.

One of the folks on our flight (a huge guy I nicknamed Tiny), was from French Polynesia. His friends and family arranged for a dance troupe to greet him in the airport in Papeete, Tahiti.

First the women performed, and then the men, and then all together. We got to watch while we were waiting for our ride to our hotel.

For our first night, we stayed at Le Meridien on Tahiti. It was a very nice hotel, and the grounds were beautiful. This is the view from our balcony.

This is another view from our balcony, at Le Meridien on the island of Tahiti.
